Day 57 Mount Molloy to Cooktown

We had a nice camp fire last night but were eventually hustled of to bed by a little rain.

We drove the inland way up to Cooktown which is all bitumen. The only real interesting thing to see on the way was the Black Mountain National Park, which has a couple of big hills of big black granite boulders only sparcely vegetated. They look very odd as they seem to be just poking up in an otherwise tree covered area.

We arrived in Cooktown , pitched camp and set about inspecting the town. The Endeavour River and wharf of course was a must see. At the wharf we got to see a local lose a huge spanish mackerel when it ran around a wharf pylon.

Do you know they have a boat here that goes out specifically to dive for sea slugs for export overseas.

For the kids (and Brett)- who knows why Cooktown is called Cooktown?
