From Charters Towers we headed north to Undara to see the Lava Tubes. On the way there we encountered large sections of road where it was a single lane bitumen road. Unfortunately this was a road well used by mine road trains and they have a rule up here - 'if you see a road train coming they stay in the middle of the road and you dive off the side and hope for the best in the gravel (Penny didn't drive that day).
Oh yes and I haven't mentioned Richie knocked one of Bridget's front teeth out. Unfortunately it wasn't actually the loose one. Look at this Hobo:
When we got to Undara we got a powered site but were the only ones there. It was just us and a heap of wildlife - kookaburras, currawongs, wallabies, kangaroos and even some Rufous Bettongs that joined us for dinner at the camp kitchen.
After dinner we joind the Ranger at a campfire for some astronomy lessons, but alas the children drifted off to sleep about half way through.....
