In Undara for the day today. The whole area is or was volcanic and first activity for the morning was to check out the Kalkani crater and walk the rim. Well before we got to that there was one little drama when Richie and I went to the toilet block to brush our teeth. While we there I felt the need to have a sit but found someone there before me - a 'Brown' snake (must have been catching frogs).
After lunch we went on a tour of the lava tubes. These were caves formed around 200 million years ago where high volumes of lava flowed from the Undara Volcano. As it did so the out surface cooled and solidified whilst the inner core remained molten and kept flowing for miles. Eventually when the erruption subsided the core emptied out leaving a long tube winding across the land. Today the lava tubes have collapsed at numerous points allowing us access to go in and view them.
Then it was back to the Undara resort (as they like to call it) for a cuppa and some homework for the kids.
