Day 43: Gunlom Falls to Daly Waters

It was an apprehensive morning waiting to see what the landscape was like after the storm. The first thing that we noticed as we woke was the noise of the waterfall. When we got out of the van we could see that the flow was much greater than the trickle that was there yesterday. After we packed up we went down to the base of the waterfall where the water was now flooding the base of track. A tour guide who happened to be there at the time warned us not to go swimming now as the high flow of water would now allow saltwater crocs to move up to the waterfall from a billabong downstream.

Before we left a ranger drove in and gave us an update on the road out and all was fine. Apparently the storm only hit us and land to our East. So we choofed out towards our destination of Daly Waters.

We arrived at Daly Waters pub mid afternoon. It’s a great little pub we dropped in at on the way up and thought it would be a nice place to stay the night. We had dinner and then sat in the pub whilst the kids wrote their diaries. There was a bit of drama at one point when the chef discovered a brown snake in the kitchen.
